Monthly Program
Join us for a presentation by Brian Rhinehart.
Session 1: I have a Civil War Ancestor... Now what?
Civil War soldiers often left a rich genealogical paper trail. Many of these records are tucked away at the National Archives in Washington DC. Learn what records are available for your ancestors only at the National Archives, what records are online already, and how to access all of them. These records may unlock some of the family stories that have been forgotten over time, as well as break down a brick wall or two!
Session 2: Navigating the Records From the War of 1812.
From bounty land to pensions, there are no shortage of genealogical records for soldiers from The War of 1812. Learn why these records were created, how to make sense of them, and what those records can contain for your ancestors.
Presenter Bio: Brian got his start in family history research back in 1999, when he heard about a new website called Ancestry.com. He searched for a couple of older family names, and within an hour was connected back to the 1800's. He was hooked and has been doing it ever since. Through the course of his research, he has discovered that his ancestors have been involved in every major war in America's history. His discovery of six of his direct ancestors' involvement in the Civil War sparked an interest in their military history and uncovering whatever records he could find for them. He has spent countless hours in the National Archives with their records, as well as hundreds of other soldiers' records in the process.
