A-wandering we will go: The life of the German Journeyman

Speaker: Benjamin Hollister

The Lutheran Archives in Australia hold a Wanderungbuch for a journeyman in the 1840s from Wismar.  The record of his journey gives great insight into the way that people from distant German states often met, circumstances surrounding illegitimacy, and why there is sometimes no record of your ancestor. In addition, the records that can be found in German and other archives, often not yet indexed or digitized, have been known to break down brick walls where church and civil records are scant or no longer exist.  This presentation will present the life of the Journeyman, plus give examples of records that can be used to flesh out a family history, and how to have the best success finding them.
