Using DNAPainter to find DNA Segments of your Common Ancestors

  • 05 Sep 2020
  • 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
  • Virtual meeting

DNAPainter is a visual organizational tool which allows you paint the  DNA segments of your matches onto a canvas of chromosomes. By evaluating segment overlaps with your known DNA relatives, you can identify from which direct ancestor you inherited that segment. This talk will show you how to populate DNAPainter with segments of the matches about whom you know the most , and how to "walk back" segments to more distant ancestors. With this population in place, identifying segments of unknown matches becomes easier.
