Topics War of 1812 and Solving Mysteries: Step by Step are presented by guest speaker Linda Serna.

“War of 1812”

Tells the story of the War of 1812, one of America’s forgotten wars, and broadens our understanding of this time in history. It includes people and places, as well as occurrences, and is rounded out with interesting trivia to make the story come alive.

“Solving Mysteries: Step by Step”

Shows a step at a time process to solving a genealogical puzzle.  Several cases are offered.  It begins with an initial question, looks at documents and sources found and analyzes the findings which then leads to more questions, documents and analysis until a final solution is discovered.

Linda Serna’s Bio:
I have been involved with genealogy in researching and writing family stories for over 30 years. In addition, I was privileged to work as a genealogist for the first season of the PBS Genealogy Roadshow program. Currently, I am Treasurer for the Southern California Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (SCCAPG), and a member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild (GSG), the Polish Genealogical Society (PGS-CA), and the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America (GSHA-CA) and am past Vice President of Programs for the Orange County California Genealogical Society (OCCGS). Over the last 8 years, I've written and given several presentations on various topics for different groups in California and New Mexico. I am always in the process of writing new presentations. My loves, in addition to public speaking, include history, writing, and traveling. I especially like seeing how individual family stories fit in and make up the fabric of history.
